Colonial Williamsburg - Part 1

May 26-29th, Memorial Weekend

Colonial Williamsburg is a living history museum that presents part of the historic district of Williamsburg, Virginia, which at one time was the capital of Colonial Virginia. It is 301 acres with buildings from the 18th century, as well as restored and reconstructed buildings, resulting in an interpretation of a colonial American city. The main street is the Duke of Gloucester Street and it was a wonderful place to visit.

First stop: The Governor's Palace.

Spring in Maryland 2018

This is how all trees look in winter, which is 

why the green in spring is so beautiful. Once 

this tree bloomed it got lost in all the green.

pollen, and flooding.

Retention pond in front of our office door. We have seen

squirrels, chipmunks, fox, deer, raccoon, and red cardinals

that sing at the top of their lungs out this door.

Philadelphia Temple, National Archives, WIB, June 2018 Departures

We went with Elder and Sister Wright to the Philadelphia temple on May 5th.  Very beautiful with colonial carpets, furniture, and lighting.

We also went to the National Archives on May 12th.  We were not allowed to take pictures, but saw one of the four remaining Magna Charters in the world, the original Declaration of Independence, Article of Federation, and The Constitution.  We saw original letters written by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We saw an 1879 census of Idaho's Shoshone County, reporting 4,000 Chinese living in Shoshone County, Idaho, which at the time was 28% of the population of Idaho. We saw the final payment made by Charles Ingalls in Dakota Territory for his 154 acre farm. Three of the Little House series took place there. We listened to the first voice recordings of Theodore Roosevelt. And, much, much more.

Of course, it is never this empty when open, but wanted to 

show the murals and the beginning of the dome. It was 

very beautiful.
