Thurl Bailey played college basketball  for North Carolina State, which won the NCAA Championship in 1983.  He played for the Utah Jazz for nine years. Sindi also played college basketball. He and Sindi married after her family staged an "intervention" and forced her to choose between Thurl and her family. She chose Thurl. Flash five years forward, Sindi's father baptized Thurl in Italy where he was playing basketball. A turning point in his conversion was when he was going through a border crossing into Switzerland. The border patrol officer always asked three questions when someone wanted to cross, but one time, the questions caused him some deep reflection.

1) Where did you come from?
2) What is your purpose?
3) What is your destination?

He was lonely, family wasn't with him, so he called the mission and invited missionaries over, and then a few days later the mission president was knocking on his door. Brother and Sister Bailey spoke on many things and it was a wonderful testimony of the  power of love, of the Holy Ghost guiding you, and the power of perseverance.

A side note, his son, Elder Bailey is serving a mission in the Washington D.C. North Mission.
